Fallon holiday music set to creative themes
December 13, 2016
Holiday musical performances are happening this week and next, from a sold-out madrigal dinner party fundraiser to a chance to hear the old Christmas novelty song "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" and more.
The Lahontan Valley Choir's Christmas concert is Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Wolf Center behind Epworth United Methodist Church. Donations of canned (non-perishable, unexpired) food items for the church's food pantry are encouraged.
The theme of the evening is "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas," which peaked at number 24 on Billboard magazine's pop chart in December 1953.
Steve Russell and his fellow vocalists, a group made up of 15 women and six men, will be performing a variety of songs — 12 in all to create a program lasting a little over an hour in the decorated center, Russell said. He added there will be special performances during intermission as well.
Churchill County High School choir group, Minor Details, is hosting "A Ceremony of Carols" in St. Patrick's Parish Hall on Friday — a night of dinner and music with a madrigal theme.
There will be choral and instrumental music, a royal court including a king and queen, a Boar's Head Ceremony as well as a silent auction.

However, more music can be enjoyed Tuesday when Logos Christian Academy goes caroling. The carolers are leaving the school parking lot at about 1 p.m. to include stops at City Hall and the Churchill/Fallon Fire Department. Then at 7 p.m., the Oasis Academy Christmas concert will be happening at the Fallon Convention Center.
