Saturday is one of many days where local organizations come together to help others.

The Churchill Community Coalition, in partnership with New Frontier Treatment Center, is hosting its annual Fallon Family Fun Day and 5K Color Blast walk/run at Venturacci Park in support of national Recovery Month.

Andrea Zeller of the Churchill Community Coalition said her organization also works with other agencies including law enforcement, the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe, the railroad, the city of Fallon, Churchill County and the Parks and Recreation Department.

The full-day free event (except for race fees) runs from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and has fun for the entire family with free food and entertainment.

“The purpose (of the day) is to acknowledge and recognize that treatment works and is effective,” Zeller said. “Recovery from addiction can happen, and families can stay together and function.”

During the day, people can see static displays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., participate in the various games for children and adults, also from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and have a free barbecue lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

A free raffle will also be conducted at Family Day.

Registration for the run/walk begins at 8 a.m., and race time is at 9 a.m.

Zeller said many success stories always emerge from this special day including one that is close to her.

“A good friend who’s an ex-fighter pilot now an airline pilot runs the race every year,” she said. “He had an alcohol problem and went through recovery and has been sober for 20 years. He has run this race every year and supports it.”

Zeller said recovery affects everyone.
