Churchill Economic Development Authority’s Fallon Food Hub is now taking orders online through its Fresh Farm Box Store.

In addition to fresh local produce, CEDA Executive Director Rachel Dahl said meat, dairy, bread, coffee, local honey and other value added products are available. Orders will be taken every Saturday at midnight through Wednesday at 3 p.m. She said “Your Fresh Farm Box” will be available for pickup at the Fallon Food Hub at 40 E. Center St. (No. 5) beginning 9 a.m. on Friday morning. Perishable items from Fresh Farm Boxes not picked up later that day by 6 p.m. will be donated to Fallon Daily Bread.

To place your order and find out ways you can be involved, Dahl said individuals should visit the Fallon Food Hub website at http://www.fallonfoodhub.com.

The downtown food hub occupies the space once occupied by the Apple Tree and La Casita restaurants in the Town and County Square building on Center Street.

Dahl said the food hub continues to gain widespread attention and funding through grants since the idea was first floated in late 2014.

The location, which includes an adjacent room, contains almost 3,000 feet and has a kitchen and a second floor that will be used for classes.

The plan for the facility, Dahl said, also includes retail and coffee making.

Dahl said the food hub has eight farms on board including five from Fallon, two from Yerington and one from the University of Nevada.

The food hub will have plenty of fresh produce, and Dahl said CEDA is working with Heck’s Meat Co., to provide meat in the food boxes. She said it is CEDA’s goal to sell memberships.
