Golfers take on state tourney

After the first round, Fallon’s girls golfers are in the middle of the pack.

Sara Evans carded an opening round 104 to lead the Lady Wave at the Division I-A state tournament in Elko.

The tournament concluded Tuesday, although results were not available at press time.

Fallon’s Tabetha Park turned in a 106, followed by Vivane Ugalde (109) and Hannah Evans (121).

Julia Becker of Faith Lutheran led the way on Monday with a 71, while Fernley’s Brittany Evans scored a 79 and sits in fourth place. Elko’s Kaily Beatty is tied for fourth with a 78, while Truckee’s Sienna Scibird is tied for fifth after shooting an 82.

Faith Lutheran led the team competition with a first-day total of 344 followed by Clark (348), Elko (387), Lowry (393), SECTA (431) and Fernley (438).

Lady Wave runners 5th, boys 7th

Junior Tristen Thomson, sophomore Ethan Smith and freshman Chloe Overlie continued their standout seasons on the cross-country course.

Thomson added another top 10 finish to his resume with a sixth-place mark at the Sparks Invitational last week. Thomson crossed the line in 18:41, while Smith took 11th in a time of 19:09.

Overlie, meanwhile, placed ninth in the loaded girls field with a time of 22:36.

The boys finished seventh with 172 points behind meet winner Reed (39), Douglas (118), Fernley (122), South Tahoe (127), Dayton (152) and Silver Stage (160).

The Lady Wave, meanwhile, placed fifth behind powerhouse Truckee (18), Fernley (79), Douglas (79) and Reed (98).

For the boys, Mo Coverston came in 50th (20:57), Terry White was 55th (21:14), and Devyn Frederick took 59th (21:21).

Following Overlie for the Lady Wave were Jordyn Rogers in 35th (25:43), Amanda Pursley in 47th (36:39), Jeanne Anderson was 56th (27:00) and Shelby Smith placed 57th (27:36).
