The Fallon wrestling team showed it will be a player throughout the season.

The Greenwave were led by a trio of second-place finishes by Terry White (106 pounds), Jack Swisher (136) and Sam Goings (160) at the Cody Louk Invitational last weekend in Winnemucca.

As a team, the Wave placed fourth with 183 points behind champion Lowry (264), Spanish Springs (214.5) and Carson (183).

White took second after he lost to Cody Jones of Spanish Springs 24-11 in the final. White had two pins and beat Cameron Thompson, 6-2, in the semifinals.

Goings suffered a rare loss by pin in his championship bout. He was taken out in the third period by Reese Neville of Yerington for Goings’ first loss of the season.

The Fallon junior, though, tallied three pins including a second-round win over Carson’s Nolan Shine. Goings also recorded a technical fall (15-0) victory over Connor Starkey of Lowry.

Swisher also lost in the title bout when he was pinned by Lowry’s Nate Nelson in the first round. Swisher opened the tournament with a 10-1 win over John Martel of Wooster, a 15-0 thumping over Michael Venzor of Lowry, pinned Blake Boswell of Spanish Springs and scored a 7-3 win over Trevor Basaraba of Elko in the semifinals.

Also carrying Fallon were Mason Smith (113), Jordan Schultz (145) and Louie Mori Jr. (152), who both earned fourth place.

Smith won his first three bouts with pins over Kevin Villegas of Elko, Scott Wages of Sparks and Bobby Kester of Battle Mountain.

In the semifinal, however, Smith was pinned in the third period by Carson’s Brandon Basa but rebounded with a pin over Sparks’ Athony Carrilo in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place match, Smith was pinned by Nicholas Paolillo of Spanish Springs.

Schultz, meanwhile, pinned his way to the quarterfinals with wins over Brandon White of Wells, Brad Pebley of Dayton and Cameron Bowman of Fernley. Schultz, though, lost a 12-6 decision to Tim Trainor of North Valleys in the quarterfinals.

Schultz scored a consolation semifinal victory (6-5) over Scott Giordano of Spanish Springs but lost 13-6 to Spanish Springs’ Isaac Ruiz in the third-place bout.

Mori started with wins over Skyler Brown of Elko (11-2) and pinned Fernley’s Chris Neiman before being pinned by Christia Hanly of Wooster in the quarterfinals.

Mori then beat Sheldon Martin of North Valleys in the consolation semifinals but was pinned by Angel Ramirez of Pershing County in the third-place match.

Juan Ledezma (182) and Wyatt Hampton (220) continued Fallon’s success as each nabbed sixth place.

After a first-round bye, Ledezma earned a second-round win with a pin over Isaac Meza of Elko. Ledezma, though, was pinned by Wyatt Gibbs of Wells in the quarterfinals.

Ledezma won his first two consolation bouts with pins over Lowry’s Bryan Terry and Zach Heese. Ledezma then fell to Gibbs in the fifth-place bout, placing sixth.

Hampton placed sixth after falling to Luis Salazar of Elko in the fifth-place bout. Also after a first-round bye, Hampton scored a second-round win over Forrest Barron of Carson with a pin, but lost to Salazar, 1-0, in the quarterfinals.

Hampton followed with consolation wins over Kyle Engelken and Chase Hellman both of Spanish Springs before losing to Bryce Cartlidge of Reno in the consolation semifinals.

Other Fallon wrestlers included Anthony Ramirez (120), who went 2-2, Dylan McAfee (126) was 1-2, Conner Card (145) went 1-2, Bryson Abe (170) went 2-2 and

Kobe Abe (220) went 1-2.
