Greenwave cross country improves at Fernley, Reed
Just barely a month into the season, the Greenwave cross country team continues to improve with all runners achieving personal or season bests.
The Lady Wave took sixth in Fernley on Tuesday while the boys team was eighth, finishing behind 3A schools Fernley (first), Dayton (third) and Lowry (fifth). Only Fernley’s girls team placed higher (first) than Fallon.
Sophomore Justin Cathey and senior Joseph Terry took eighth and ninth, finishing the 5,000-meter race in 20 minutes, 18 seconds and 20:22, respectively. Junior JR Demillo was 24th in 21:16 and junior Dawson Frost finished 88th in 26:07. Senior John Kirkland was 91st at 27:00 and sophomore William Anderson rounded out at 32:24 for 107th.
For the girls, freshman Savannah Robinson finished 20th in 27:50 and senior Corin Ramos was 23rd at 27:54. Junior Jeanne Anderson finished 28th at 28:42 and senior Amanda Pursley was 40th at 29:50. Junior Bailee Walker was 65th after running a 36:51.
The Lady Wave amassed 287 points to finish 10th overall while the boys had 290 points for 11th in the 4A-dominant race at Reed last week. Only Dayton and Silver Stage competed besides Fallon in the boys while Fallon was the only small school for the girls.
Anderson paced the Lady Wave with a personal best of 25:34 to finish 67th overall while Robinson finished 72nd in 26:07, also a personal best. Ramos ran a personal best of 27:05 for 78th, followed by Pursley in 79th in 27:59, a season best. Walker also ran a personal best of 28:12 for 80th.
For the boys, Cathey, Terry and Demillo each ran personal bests while Kirkland and Frost ran season bests. Cathey ran the race in 19:06 for 37th and Terry was 49th at 19:35. Demillo was 82nd at 20:51 and Kirkland finished 97th at 23:14. Frost was 98th at 23:46.
Fallon competes in Winnemucca on Oct. 7 before concluding the regular season on Oct. 14 in Sparks.
