‘Home Means Nevada’
Not just any old song.
It’s a stirring song with a strong, vibrant melody that extols the beautiful virtues of a state that grew out of an ugly civil war almost 150 years ago.
“Home Means Nevada,” the official state song written by Bertha Raffetto in 1932 and adopted by the Legislature one year later, reveals a land of the setting sun where the wind blows wild and free.
On Thursday, organizers around the state — including those in Fallon — are hoping thousands of Nevadan’s are singing the words to Raffetto’s song … all at once … as Nevada’s sesquicentennial celebrations begin to wind down before the Nevada Day parade on Saturday.
Fallon will participate in the world record attempt to have the most people in the state sing the state song at once at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the courtyard behind City Hall.
“As the state wraps up Nevada’s 150 celebration, the city of Fallon wanted to give people a chance to hear how powerful voices are when they come together,” said Rick Gray, executive director of the Fallon Convention and Tourism Authority. “Nevadans identify with the song lyrics, making each line a proud message.”
Residents have been invited by the city to join Mayor Ken Tedford Jr. and the city council and sing the song’s three stanzas.
The school district is also allowing all teachers/classrooms to pre-register and participate.
Also on Thursday Gov. Brian Sandoval, Lt. Gov. Brian Schools, companies, organizations, government employees and individuals are joining in.
The world record will be officiated by RecordSetter, a Las Vegas-based organization, quickly establishing itself as the new home of world records.
To become involved, visit the Nevada 150 website at http://www.Nevada150.org to sign up and let the city know that you’ll be participating. This will help the city not only reach its goal but also allow the city to keep residents updated as it builds up to the historic #NevadaSings record attempt. The following link gives details on how the state is promoting this effort: http://www.nevada150.org/nevadasings…/
Participants who pre-register at http://www.Nevada150.org are responsible for documenting their efforts by shooting video or taking photos in order to make the event an official RecordSetter World Record.
Groups or individuals can participate from anywhere as long as singing is documented and shared using #NevadaSings on social media. Those participating in the in Fallon will be accounted for as a group and do not need individual documentation.
