Junior swimmers qualify for championships
The expression “dynamite comes in small packages” could be said about two Fallon Barracuda Swim Team (FBST) swimmers, 8-year-olds Evan Giovanetti and Madalynn Lady.
These two junior swimmers have qualified for the 2016 Sierra Nevada Short Course Championships that will be held later this month in California.
In order to compete in this swim meet, swimmers had to have Junior Olympic qualifying times. Evan joined the Barracudas in 2014 at the age of 6. He has qualifying times in 25-yard freestyle and 25-yard breaststroke.
Madalynn joined FBST in January 2014 at the age of 6 and now has qualifying times in 25-yard freestyle, 25-yard backstroke, 25-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle.
Both Fallon swimmers are expected to make a name for themselves by competing against other qualifiers across Nevada and California.
Excitement is spreading fast through Fallon, particularly since the swim team has grown four times its size during the last two years.
The FBST is managed by a group of dedicated volunteer coaches, parents and board members who have committed themselves to the success of a team that promotes healthy life-long skills for young, growing athletes.
For those who haven’t been to the Churchill County indoor swimming pool in a while, FBST practices Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The Barracudas are always looking for new junior swimmers to join the fun and culture of a competitive swim team.
More information on the Barracudas can be found on their Facebook page “Fallon Barracuda Swimteam” or by visiting their official site “Teamunify.com/snfbst.”
