Lane closures begin Monday on the Lovelock Highway
Additional lane closures will take place on U.S. 95 between Fallon and Interstate 80 beginning Monday as part of a Nevada Department of Transportation project to construct passing lanes and enhance roadway safety.
In addition to periodic construction-related lane closures which began in November, U.S. 95 will be reduced to one lane approximately eight miles south of the Interstate 80 junction as a bridge over the Humboldt Slough is widened to more safely accommodate wide commercial vehicles. Both directions of traffic will be alternated through the construction zone using a temporary traffic signal 24 hours a day. Motorists should anticipate delays of up to 20 minutes through summer.
The bridge improvements are part of an NDOT project started in November to enhance U.S. 95. Two-mile long passing lanes will also be constructed in four places on the highway between Fallon and I-80. In addition, roadway drainage will be improved and roadside slopes widened for enhanced safety if vehicles unintentionally leave the roadway. The approximately $9.3 million project by contractor A&K Earth Movers is scheduled to complete by summer 2016. Further project details are available by dialing 775-888-7000.
