Wednesday is the county’s only Candidates’ Night to shed a spotlight on those individuals running for local offices.

The following times will be adjusted depending on the length of each segment. Only the Churchill County School Board, Mosquito, Vector and Weed Control board and sheriff races are nonpartisan races.

Candidates’ Night is being held three days before early voting begins on Saturday in Nevada.

Sponsored by the Lahontan Valley News, Candidates’ Night begins at 6 p.m. with the Churchill County Recorder’s race between Jaime Dellera and Tasha Hessey.

At 6:15 p.m., candidates for the Churchill County school Board will discuss their reasons for serving as a trustee. Five candidates are vying for four seats: Rich Gent, Clay Hendrix, Matt Hyde, Nona McFarlane and Carmen Schank. All but Hyde are incumbents.

Presentations on Question 3, the Education Initiative (or margin’s tax initiative) and a ballot measure for additional funding for fire department equipment will take place from 7-7:15 p.m.

From 7:15-7:30 p.m. unopposed candidates in Churchill County will be introduced and asked to say a few words.

Candidates for the Mosquito, Vector and Weed Control board will take their turns; however, only two candidates said they will attend: Christy Lattin and Jay Lingenfelter, both incumbents. Others running for the board are Joe Jordan and Mike Spencer.

Bob Getto and Stuart Mackie are candidates for Public Administrator.

After a 10-15 minute break, Assembly candidates for District 38 will take the stage at 8:10 p.m. followed by sheriff candidates Jay Horsley and Ben Trotter at 8:40 p.m. The time for the sheriff candidates could be moved up depending on the previous presentations.

Only two candidates for Assembly — John O’Connor (Libertarian)and Robin Titus (Republican) — have confirmed their attendance. The other candidate is Tim Fasano (Independent American). He has not responded to emails, regular mail or telephone calls to verify attendance.
