Navy training range proposal workshop
Churchill County and Resource Concepts, Inc. (RCI) are offering a workshop on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the commission chambers about the Fallon Range Training Complex Modernization proposal.
Doors open at 5:05 p.m. and detailed project maps will be available to view. At 5:30 p.m. RCI will present, and from 6-7 p.m. there will be discussion with RCI and county staff as well as more map viewing. The chambers are located in suite 110 at 155 N. Taylor St.
The workshop will review the proposed land withdrawal areas, planning process and timelines as well as share how concerned citizens can engage in the process by providing comments in an effective manner.
The U.S. Department of the Navy is proposing the project to provide realistic training capabilities needed to meet changing aviation and ground training requirements. The county retained RCI to analyze potential project impacts.
The proposal would renew an existing public land withdrawal of 202,859 acres set to expire in November 2021. The proposal includes an additional public land withdrawal of about 604,789 acres and acquisition of about 65,160 acres of private land. Much of the proposed public land withdrawal and acquisition is within the county.
The county is in the process of developing formal written scoping comments and encourages concerned citizens to do the same. The workshop will not offer formal comment submission but will provide information and insights helpful for doing so.
