March is the month to celebrate the arts in Churchill County.

The Rising Sun Gallery and Art Studios is having its third annual Gourmet Italian Dinner fundraiser Saturday at the Fallon Convention Center.

According to Patricia Sammons, owner of the gallery, the 6-10 p.m. event features an evening of pasta, wine and entertainment to support ongoing art education and community programs in Churchill County.

Sammons said tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door, which includes one glass of wine. In addition to the Italian dinner, the fundraiser also features a raffle and silent auction.

“We’ll have paintings and canvas photographs plus additional items,” Sammons said of the silent auction.

She said more and more photographers are mounting their photos on canvas, which gives the image a distinguished appearance.

Over the years, the fundraiser has helped with community projects to include last fall’s community presentation of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” Previously Rising Sun Gallery also produced “Douggel,” a play that was written by a Fallon resident, and “Sherlock Holmes Radio Show.”

Already, the gallery is working on its next production, “Sleeping Beauty: A Tale Told Slightly Off the Wall.” The play is scheduled for the second week in May and then travels to various sites, Sammons said.

“It’s moving along well,” she said. “I have read it, and it’s a hoot. It’s good for the entire family.”

Once the presentation of the play is completed, Sammons said work begins on a puppet show that wil be performed in early fall.

In addition to presenting community plays, the gallery offers art classes for all ages to include basic art, acrylic painting, oils and watercolor. Sammons said she also has classes in ceramics, weaving and wood burning.
