Senior Center to conduct ribbon cutting

A ribbon-cutting will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Churchill County Senior Center to celebrate the recent opening of the Aging and Disability Resource Center at its facility.


The public is invited to attend a ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. on Oct. 22 at the Churchill County Senior Center in celebration of the recent opening of the Aging and Disability Resource Center at its facility.

With funds provided by an approved Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division grant, the senior center was able to hire a full-time person to assist seniors, people with disabilities, caregivers and veterans with the following services:

Helpful information including subjects such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc.

Identification of long-term care possibilities

Advocacy of rights, interests and benefits

Referral to available services and activities

Initiation and monitoring of benefit applications

Follow-up on needed services

Filling the position of ADRC Specialist at CCSC is Sherri Herringshaw who, in only one month, has served 38 clients and provided 104 units of service.

Also on that Tuesday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. the senior center will host a resource fair during which individuals can speak with experts in their fields on a variety of topics. Participants will include representatives from Banner Churchill Community Hospital and its auxiliary, Gentiva Home Health, The Homestead, The Medicine Shop, Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities and State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). Herringshaw will also be available to talk about the ADRC and her responsibilities as a resource specialist for the community.

Many city, county and state officials, including staff from the Nevada ADSD, as well as members of CCSC’s Coalition for Senior Citizens and its Advisory Council, are expected to attend.

A drawing for a Made In Nevada gift basket valued at $180 will take place during the day. Tickets for $1 each can be purchased at the Churchill County Senior Center, 310 E. Court St.. Individuals need not be present to win.
