Spikers swept by Lions
It wasn’t the performance Patty Daum was expecting.
The Fallon volleyball team was drilled Tuesday 25-18, 25-12, 25-8 by visiting Yerington at the Elmo Dericco Gym.
The Lady Wave (2-3) struggled all game to find any consistency especially with its passing game.
“They (Yerington) were ready,” Fallon coach Patty Daum said. “We couldn’t get our passing together, people weren’t communicating and balls weren’t in sync.”
Sophomore setter Zoey Swisher led the team with seven assists, while junior Taylor Amezquita recorded two. Evan Matheson and Kristyn Arvizo led the Lady Wave with four kills each, and Megan McCormick added two.
Despite the humbling statistics, Daum said her club must refocus and be prepared heading into Saturday’s tournament at Lassen (Calif.). The Lady Wave will play four round-robin matches in the morning then enter the single-elimination tournament in the afternoon.
“We have to be prepared for the game,” Daum said. “Before the game, they were doing everything but preparing for the game.”
Thomson third at Nevada Twilight
Fallon junior runner Tristen Thomson led the Greenwave with a third-place finish at last week’s Nevada Twilight Cross Country Meet at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Thomson finished with a time of 14:39, three seconds behind the winner, and besting 63 runners from Nevada, California, Oregon and Utah.
Teammate Ethan Smith took 15th in the boys division with a mark of 15:11 followed by Terry Smith in 24th (16:16) and Cameron Kissick in 34th (16:26).
For the Lady Wave, Jordyn Rogers crossed the line in 19:37 to place 19th.
Fallon returns to the course today at 3 p.m. at Whittell.
Tennis rolls to win
The Fallon boys tennis team drilled North Tahoe, 16-2, on Tuesday in Tahoe City.
The Greenwave were led by No. 1 singles player Adam Wadsworth, who went 3-0, as did No. 3 singles player Joseph Jamieson. No. 2 singles player Jumel VillaCarlos went 2-1.
In doubles, the two-time state qualifying duo of Tyler Wood and Martin Beyer went two, while the No. 2 pairing of Christian Stadtman and Dustin Delugg and No. 3 tandem of Eric Sabatino and Wei Deng each went 3-0.
The Lady Wave, meanwhile, won by forfeit as North Tahoe did not field a tennis team this season.
Both teams played Sparks on Thursday, although results were not available at press time.
Golfers sit in fourth
