Tickets remain for Saturday’s performance

A few tickets remain for the performance by the Americana band, The Leftover Cuties, who will perform in the Barkley Theatre at the Oats Park Art Center tomorrow night.

The band’s eclectic repertoire and sultry vocals have been hailed as seductive noire-jazz-pop and they’ve developed quite a fan base around the country.

In fact, the Showtime series, “The Big C,” used one of their songs for its theme music. Band members are Shirli McAllen, Austin Nicholsen, Mike Bolger and Stuart Johnson.

They’ve released several albums including “Departures,” ‘Places to Go,” “Game Called Life” and, most recently, “The Spark and The Fire.”

Tickets are $17 for CAC members, $20 for non-members and can be picked up at Jeff’s Copy Express on Maine Street, at ITT @ NAS Fallon or by calling Churchill Arts at 775-423-1440.

Members of the band will present a free talk on their musical styles and influences at 3 p.m. tomorrow in the Center’s Art Bar. It’s open to the general public and is a great chance to talk with these rising musicians in an informal, up close and personal environment.

You’ll also be able to check out the refurbished and revamped ChArts Store at the Art Center and peruse its diverse array of newly stocked items including artwork, books, scarves and many other unique things. The store will be open at all CAC events or by appointment bey calling 775-423-1440.

CAC events for October will include the annual Ales for Arts, craft beer and brew festival on Ocotber 2, featuring beers from Lagunitas, Great Basin, Sierra Nevada and several local brewmasters.

There will also be a talk by, and reception for, Reno artist, Eunkang Koh’s mixed-media works and prints that are on view in the Classroom Gallery at the Art Center. The talk and reception will be on Oct. 17.

And, tickets are selling fast for the show by the acclaimed ensemble, The Hot Club of Cowtown coming on Oct. 23. We’ll have more info on these October events in the coming weeks.
