MINDEN — Austin Evans scored 9 of his 11 points in the fourth quarter Saturday to help the Douglas High boys basketball team in its a come-from-behind 49-41 win at home against Fallon.

Fallon held a 31-27 lead at the end of three quarters, however, the Tigers (6-5 overall, 2-2 Sierra League) scored 11 unanswered points to start the fourth to take charge of the non-league contest at Randy Green Court.

Though coming off an important 58-45 Northern I-A league win one night before at Truckee, Fallon coach Brad Barton was not disappointed with the Greenwave’s performance.

“We won last night and didn’t play that well, but we lost tonight and played pretty well,” Barton said. “I’m proud of my guys. They gave a good effort, especially the guys coming off the bench.”

Fallon (3-5, 2-1) led 31-27 at the end of a third quarter that saw five lead changes. Branden Turner drove and banked a shot off the glass to give the Greenwave a 31-27 lead.

Evans, a 6-foot-5 senior, picked up a loose ball and drove three-quarters of the court for a layup and then scored on another layup, assisted by A.J. Pfaffenberger, to tie the score at 31-all with 7:30 to go. Pat Johnson hit a pair of free throws to put the Tigers on top, 33-31, and then fed a pass to Evans, who knocked down a 3-pointer to make it 36-31 with 6:23 to go.

“They increased their defensive intensity and we just made too many turnovers,” Barton said. “We need to manage ourselves and stay composed in those situations.”

In addition to Evans, 6-10 senior James Herrick and Johnson scored eight points each for the Tigers. Herrick also had 16 rebounds and three blocked shots.

“We put in a few new things defensively to try and keep the ball out of the big kid’s (Herrick) hands, and I thought the kids did a good job of executing the game plan,” Barton said. “I was proud of our defensive effort.”

Jeff Evett led all scorers for the Greenwave with 17 points, nine of which came in the third quarter.

Jace Hart led Douglas with his game-high 20 points, 7 of which came in the fourth quarter. Dylan Hinks also scored nine on a trio of 3-pointers in the first half.
