100 Years Ago

Nevada has more opportunities for the young man than any other state in the union. With special reference to mining, it can be truthfully said the world only knows Nevada as a producer of gold, silver, and copper. These are the major metals in the wealth of the state which have commanded attention from the day the Comstock lode was discovered. The war is causing prospectors to do some thinking, studying government publications which are always interesting to the man with his mind engrossed with the making of another Virginia City.

That the Churchill County Telephone & Telegraph System is enjoying healthy growth is indicated by the fact that this county-owned utility has added 27 new subscribers this year…Benjamin Franklin Casey, otherwise known as “Wild Horse Casey” and “Lahontan Valley Scotty” has quite a string of horses at his Hooten Valley place…he is rounding up another bunch of bangtails for the rodeo event and promises some fine riding exhibitions if any buckaroos show up who can top his mustangs off…the 1940 Ford is on display at Lahontan Motor Company advertising 22 new Ford features according to president Kent E. Wallace.
