Wolf Pack hoops win with rival on the horizon

Nevada is now 16-9 (8-5 MW) after defeating San Jose State 61-55 (8-18, 3-11 MW) at the Event Center in San Jose, Calif. on Wednesday night.

The Wolf Pack plays at intrastate rival UNLV (15-12, 6-8 MW) on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will air on CBS Sports Network. The Pack defeated UNLV in January at Lawlor Events Center in Reno.

Nevada has won a season-high three in a row for the second time this season.

Senior guard Marqueze Coleman scored 15 points to give him 1,002 career points. Coleman is the 25th player in 102 years of Wolf Pack basketball to score 1,000 points.

He tied his career high with a team-highs eight rebounds and led the team for the fourth time this year and seventh time in his career.

The 16 wins is seven more than all last season and the eight MW victories is three more than last season

The eight MW victories is the second most for the Pack in four years in the conference. The 2013-14 team won 10 MW games and finished in a tie for third. The 16 wins is the most since the 2011-12 team went 28-7.

Junior D.J. Fenner scored a game-high 16 points. Fenner has led the team in scoring the last three games with 18 vs. Air Force, 24 vs. Fresno State and 16 at SJSU. He has topped the team in scoring in four of the last five games as he netted 21 at Utah State. Fenner has now posted a game-high in five games this season.

Six times this season Fenner has led the team in scoring and 14 times in his career. He has scored in double figures 17 times this season and 29 times in his career

Tyron Criswell was the third Nevada player in double figures finishing with 12. Criswell has scored in double figures 13 times this season.

Freshman Cameron Oliver had one block and has a block in 24-of-25 games this season.
