Lander airports get grant money

Lander County’s two airports will get a total of $1.3 million in federal funding for restoration and other work.

Sens. Harry Reid, D-Nev., and John ensign, R-Nev., said the money will be used to restore and repave the runways at the Austin and Battle Mountain airports.

“Nevada is a big state and it’s essential that we have good airfields and airports to serve our rural communities,” said Reid.

Ensign said the airports are vital for safety as well as to help growth and access in rural areas.

The majority of the money will go to Battle Mountain – $1.1 million for runway work and construction of a taxiway turnaround.

A total of $199,390 will go to Austin to rehabilitate a runway and taxiway and to install perimeter fencing.
