RENO — Federal firefighters have contained the largest of more than two dozen wildfires that broke out in Nevada over the long Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management said Wednesday the Buffalo Fire burned nearly 10 square miles of remote rangeland in north-central Nevada before crews contained it about 20 miles west of Battle Mountain.

The blaze was reported Saturday morning on the east side of the Buffalo Mountains south of Interstate 80 about 67 miles southeast of Winnemucca.

There were no reports of injuries or structure damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The federal agency responded to a total of 28 fires from July 4 through last weekend. All the others were snuffed out in short order.
