2009 Year in Review: Gibbonses’ divorce comes to an end
The acrimonious 19-month divorce battle between Gov. Jim Gibbons and his wife Dawn finally came to an end just days before New Year’s as the couple reached agreement on how to split more than $1 million in property and possessions.
In the end, the governor had to give on several points to avoid what would have been an ugly trial including allegations he committed adultery with at least three women. The biggest concession was the deal dividing their property. In the deal, the Reno house will be sold but the only way he keeps the Elko property is to buy her out with $275,000 within 60 days. He also must pay her 20 percent of his total income for the next five years in alimony. She also got one of his two Model-T’s.
