‘The Little Mermaid Jr.’ show will premiere at Brewery Arts on Friday
It’s magical kingdom time for Wild Horse Children’s Theater as the company opens a production Friday evening of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.” In fact it’s a magical kingdom set to music fathoms under the sea, according to executive director Carol Scott., whose show runs next weekend and two more, into mid-December, at the Brewery Arts Center.“I couldn’t think of a better way to showcase the amazing young talent in our community and the collaboration and community support of the BAC,” said Scott.Adapted from Disney’s 2008 production, the show features such hit songs as the Oscar-winning “Under the Sea,” as well as “Part of Your World” and “She’s in Love.”“This will be the premiere of “The Little Mermaid Jr.” in Northern Nevada,” said Scott, “and also the premiere performance of Wild Horse Children’s Theater as one of the new resident theater companies at the BAC.”The role of Ariel, the mermaid who must defy her father King Triton if she wants to leave her oceanic home for love and life in the world above, will be performed by Heather Canfield.Along the way, she must deal with an evil sea witch called Ursula, portrayed by Payton Henderson. Scott said the musical production and Ariel’s plight remind her, as with children’s theater itself, life is about choices and exploration.Tickets for performances at the BAC Performance Hall, 511 W. King St., are $12 for general admission, $10 for students or members and $6 for children from 4-12.This Friday’s opening night performance begins at 7 p.m., as will the subsequent Friday shows scheduled for Dec. 7 and 14.On Saturday, Dec. 1, there will be Little Mermaid performances at both 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., as will be the case on Dec. 8 and 15.
