Washoe County School District police confirmed Saturday they are investigating an alleged theft at Sparks High of several items in the visitor’s locker room.

When Dayton football players returned to the visitor’s locker room after Friday’s 20-10 loss at Sparks, several players discovered their property — including wallets, keys and cameras — were missing.

“The Washoe County School District Police Department has opened an investigation and are looking into it,” WCSD spokeswoman Victoria Campbell said.

It was not known how much property was stolen, but Dayton head football coach Patrick Squires estimated it was more than $1,000 in property.

“The police have been fantastic,” Squires said. “They’ve been helping us out. They are looking at video footage.”

The visitor’s locker room at Sparks High is located south of the football field outside the football field’s gates. Squires said personal property was in the locker room during halftime and as the players left for the second half of Friday night’s game.

Property was missing and clothes and other equipment was “ransacked” when players returned to the locker room after the game, Squires said.
