Alternate 911 communications plan for Carson City

Teri Vance

Carson City officials are not anticipating a 911 systems failure but have developed an alternate plan if it occurs.

Various sites have been selected to serve as 911 links to the city’s dispatch system.

The system is designed so people in need of assistance can go to the site nearest to them to request help.

Trained amateur radio personnel will take their requests and forward them to the City Dispatch Center or to the Emergency Operations Center.

The sites are Carson City Fire Station No. 2 and No. 3, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson-Tahoe Hospital, Western Nevada Community College, Carson High School, Carson Middle School, Empire, Seeliger and Mark Twain elementary schools.

For information, call Carson City Fire Department, Emergency Management Division at 887-2210 ext. 15.
