Nevada Appeal Staff Report

The Nevada State Museum plans an event Saturday called “Sensational Sagebrush” that will offer families a close-up look at the Silver State’s official flower.Designated the official Nevada state flower in 1917 and also known as artemisia tridentata, the event is aimed at letting children discover why sagebrush bears that scientific name.It also will let folks examine what the plant’s three-tipped leaves look like under a microscope, provide a plant key to identify big sagebrush, and let visitors hear an original story called “Coyote and the Sagebrush.”The event is part of the Family Fun Saturdays series. It is planned for 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the museum at 600 N. Carson St., and is being hosted by the natural history discovery lab.It is free to museum members and children 17 or under but non-member adult tickets cost $8, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
