Associate pastor jailed in child sex case
The former associate pastor of a Silver Springs church remained jailed Tuesday on child molestation charges.
Raymond “Bud” Mosley, 69, was booked Thursday into the Lyon County Jail on suspicion of felony forcible sexual assault of a child under 14 and lewdness with a child under 14.
A criminal complaint filed Tuesday in Walker River Justice Court charges Mosley with three counts of lewdness with a child under 1.
According to the complaint, Mosley allegedly “encouraged, instructed and compelled” a 4-year-old girl to touch his genitals between July and April.
The complaint alleges the incidents happened “at or near” 3250 Highway 95 Alternate in Silver Springs, the address of Silver Springs Christian Church where Mosley was associate pastor with his wife Kay Mosley, senior pastor since 2000.
According to a statement from Terry Heiser, Kay Mosley’s son, the church, which also runs the Silver Springs Food Bank, is “saddened and shocked” by Bud Mosley’s arrest.
“Not only is this a church matter, this is a family matter,” said Heiser in an e-mail Tuesday afternoon to the Nevada Appeal. “Mr. Mosley has been removed from his position and any affiliation with the church.
“At this time, we ask that you give the family and church privacy as they try to move on and heal from this ordeal. Due to the ongoing investigation and the nature of the case we cannot comment on any details of the case.”
Bud Mosley is listed as the church’s resident agent on the Secretary of State website.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Acting Lt. Jerry Pattison said the allegations came to light Thursday and Mosley was arrested at a Fernley casino where he worked at 2:21 p.m. that same day.
Pattison said anyone with information should contact Lyon County Sheriff’s non-emergency dispatch at 775-577-5023, dispatch and request to speak with Deputy Marty Dues.
Mosley will be arraigned this morning. He is being held on $250,000 bail.
