by F.T. Norton

The funeral for Carson City Fire Battalion Chief Richard Chrzanowski, 57, is today at St. Teresa of Avila. Chrzanowski, known as “Ski,” died New Year’s Eve of brain cancer just five weeks after being diagnosed.

The funeral procession begins at 10:30 a.m. at Fire Station 2 on College Parkway. From there, firefighters will follow on foot the fire engine carrying Chrzanowski’s coffin to St. Teresa, 3000 N. Lompa Lane. The service begins at 11 a.m.

Carson City deputies will stop traffic at Highway 50 East and Lompa Lane, Highway 50 East and Airport Road and College Parkway and Airport Road for the procession. North Lompa Lane between East Nye Lane and Brian Circle will be blocked off to accommodate the fire trucks expected to come from California and Arizona in Chrzanowski’s honor.

Chrzanowski was a 16-year veteran of the Carson City Fire Department.

Immediately following the service a reception will be held at El Charro Avitia, 4389 S. Carson St.
