Boys & Girls club move delayed until August
The Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada expects to move into its new building at Russell Way and Northridge Drive by late August, “when school starts,” said Hal Hansen, chief professional officer of the club.
Cost for the building project would be roughly $5 million, but club officials have raised less than $3 million so far and continue seeking donations.
A four-acre site the club also owns at Russell and Northridge is in escrow, though Hansen wouldn’t disclose the identity of the buyer or the sales price. The deal is expected to be complete by May and would greatly offset the cost of the new project, he said.
And a federal grant might help pay for a multiuse outdoor field to be constructed at the new facility. The Carson City Board of Supervisors opted to award up to $253,000 of Community Development Block Grant money toward this project.
Total cost for the field would be closer to $500,000, however, Hansen said.
