The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is participating in #GivingTuesday, a global fundraising campaign on Tuesday.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is participating in the sixth annual #GivingTuesday, a global day of online giving, on Tuesday.

Katie Leao, chief professional officer for The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, said the movement provides a platform to share what the clubs do for Carson City families by offering homework support and tutoring, art, health and fitness programming and a safe, fun environment in which children ages 6 to 18 can grow and thrive.

"Investing in the Boys & Girls Clubs is an investment in our community and our future," Leao said. "Every $1 you invest in positive change for kids represents a $10 return in services to our kids and families."

In 2016, millions of people in 98 countries came together to support global causes. More than $177 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.

"We all know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but Giving Tuesday is actually about the spirit of the holiday season because it allows communities the opportunity to contribute to the programs that improve quality of life," Leao said.
