Briefcase turns out to be water test kit
A suspicious briefcase found in front of a home on Muir Drive on Wednesday night turned out to be a water test kit.
The briefcase was found by a 13-year-old resident who said he saw a man in a yellow ball cap set the briefcase down at about 7:40 p.m. and then walk toward Tillman Lane.
The boy got the case, brought it home and then opened it, finding test tubes, beakers, and chemicals inside. He then called the sheriff’s office.
Firefighters and the Tahoe-Douglas Bomb Squad were called, but after consulting, a Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District oncall employee was contacted. The worker identified the test kit as something used to sell soft water systems door-to-door.
There was no sign of the owner, and emergency personnel left the scene at about 9:21 p.m.
