Business Bank of Nevada donates backpacks
Business Bank of Nevada donated 27 backpacks filled with school supplies to students at Fremont Elementary School for the start of the new school year.
In July, Bank employees and several customers purchased backpacks and various school supplies which were recently presented to Fremont students.
The bank is also donating 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to at-risk students of Helen Jydstrup Elementary in Las Vegas and Lois Craig Elementary in North Las Vegas. The bank adopted the schools, along with Fremont Elementary, in 2004 as part of its educational outreach program, which provides monetary, in-kind and volunteer support to at-risk schools. and to other educational programs throughout Nevada.
“Business Bank continues to be one of our strongest supporters and most generous community partners with both monetary and human resources support,” said Fremont principal Jan Sullivan. “These backpack donations were a complete surprise to us and wonderful gesture on the part of the bank and its employees.”
Each week, about six employees from the bank’s Carson City branch volunteer about 12 hours to tutor students or assist teachers with tasks such as grading papers or judging student contests.
Business Bank encourages its employees to donate at least two hours a month to the three at-risk schools it adopted. It plans to adopt additional at-risk schools in some of the markets it serves, as well as new sub-markets it is looking to expand into, Reno/Sparks and the Summerlin and Green Valley areas in Southern Nevada.
