Calendars, backpacks and insight for community

Kim Riggs
For the Appeal

Our local “girls” look hot on the pages of the calendar to benefit Danielle Conway in her battle against cancer. Danielle taught my daughter ballet many years ago, and she was one of the kindest instructors I have ever witness.

Kids would come in tired and cranky from the day, and she would instantly put a smile on their faces.

Come join these hot women with amazing hearts to help a young lady and her mother, Norma, who has given so much to this town. I will be there, and I’m so proud we have these women in our community.

Sally Zola, Loretta Roche, Susie Bendure – this dynamic trio will be canvassing the community to get 400 backpacks for local shelters: Volunteers of America Shelter, Advocates to End Domestic Violence and F.I.S.H. Focus House.

They won’t stop there because CASA and other agencies need help assisting children who need school backpacks filled with supplies.

Platinum’s Salon owners and patrons always give so generously. You can help like local Coldwell Realtor Valerie Wyman who stuffed a backpack full and dropped it off at Sally’s office the other day.

Ellen Hopkins, New York Times best-selling author, will be coming to Carson City to speak.

If you haven’t taken the time to read her books, “Crank,” “Impulse” and “Burned,” I highly suggest you do. We saw all the hype for the Crystal Darkness presentation, and boom it’s gone. But I hate to inform all of you that crystal meth didn’t disappear off our streets or away from our children.

Ellen’s books speak from a true street perspective about how the addiction grows and takes over a person’s entire life. So come join First Lady Dawn Gibbons and the honorable John Tatro in welcoming this very insightful woman and raise funds for the Carson Community Counseling Center.
