Campagni opens new Toyota dealership
Dick and Mary Campagni’s new Toyota dealership in south Carson City opened with a bang this weekend.
General Manager Dana Whaley said the dealership sold 18 vehicles while they were moving over the weekend and had already sold two more out of the new store in its first two hours of operation Monday. The first vehicle out the door: a RAV4.
In addition, Whaley said they have already received a major wholesale parts order. He said there also are other signs the market is beginning to recover. Auto sales posted a 6.7 percent gain in December compared to the same month a year ago – the first positive comparison since the Cash for Clunkers program last summer.
Campagni said the new complex is a product of more than four years planning and work with Carson City, which offered tax breaks to keep the dealership in Carson City.
“It was a beneficial plan for both of us,” he said.
He said even though they saw the economy worsening a couple of years into the project, they went ahead.
“We try to look to the positive,” Campagni said. “We have no control over the Mideast, no control over the government or the economy. The only thing we have control over is how we treat our customers.”
He said construction consultant and contractor John Anderson and Mary Campagni designed the interior of the building – including a much more spacious and comfortable waiting area for customers.
“It’s a lot more customer friendly,” Mary Campagni said.
Campagni said it’s also a much better place for his 86 employees.
He said he was proud they were able to use all local construction and subcontractors to do the job – creating more than 200 jobs throughout the project.
The new complex, Campagni said, is double the 3.6 acre old site, and he owns it instead of leasing.
