Carson area road conditions, weather outlook

Drive carefully on surface streets. Many have snow and ice.

The Nevada Department of Transportation reports at 5:59 a.m. the following road conditions on area highways:

Highway 50 ” Chains or snowtires required for 8.1 miles between Fairview Drive and Dayton Valley Road in Dayton; also from the California State line at South Lake Tahoe to South Carson Street in Carson City.

Highway 395 ” Snowtires or chains required in Washoe Valley; high wind advisory, campers or trailers are not advised for 6 miles between north Carson City and Winters Ranch. Snowtires or chains required for 4.8 miles between Winters Ranch and 1.8 miles north of Washoe Hill, South Reno.

Interstate 80 ” Chains required except for 4-wheel drive vehicles for 76.9 miles between Applegate California Exit 128 and 0.7 miles east of California State Line.

Road work continues in Carson City with areas of delays. Fairview Drive, westbound, is now open from Saliman Road to Roop Street. However, there is continued work on Fairview Drive from South Edmonds to South Carson Street with lane closures and possible delays.

Lane closures are in effect on the west end of Fairview Drive.

Road work continues on Highway 50 from Saliman to Airport roads.

Work continues also on East Fifth Street from Fairview Drive to Saliman Road.

Work on Highway 50 in east Carson City and Mound House has posted lower speed limits with narrow lanes just east of Flint Drive.

A winter storm warning is in effect until 10 p.m. today.

Today’s weather will have snow showers with accumulation of 1-3 inches. Highs 27-37 with southwest winds 10-15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Tonight, show showers with accumulation of 1-3 inches. Lows 8-18 with southwest winds 10-15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph in the evening.

Tuesday, cloudy with a chance of snow showers with highs 22-32 with west winds around 10 mph.
