Carson City Pioneer High School students cross country ski in Tahoe

Students and staff at Pioneer High School skied the Chickadee Ridge area near the Tahoe Rim Trail. The day long adventure is organized each year by Dr. Mike Selby, founder of Project Discovery. Students learned basic cross-country skiing skills, worked in partnerships, fed chickadee birds from their hands, dug a snow bench and table, and looked out over Lake Tahoe after a strenuous uphill climb. Several group circle discussions and reflections focused on how this type of activity related to their daily lives. Principal Jason Zona thanks the students who faced their fears and tried something new, and the volunteers and staff; Mike Selby, Noa Selby, John Corbitt, Elijah Rotter, Brianna Rotter, and Paul Lorion for assisting with this trip.
