Carson man dies after being found in road

Nevada Appeal Staff Report

A man who died after being found next to his bike in the middle of Roop Street likely succumbed to natural causes, an investigator said.

Passersby happened upon Steven Woodruff, 49, lying in the road near College Parkway at 10:41 p.m., according to police reports. When they first came upon Woodruff he was conscious and able to tell them he was in pain. Within three minutes, logs indicate, Woodruff was unconscious and not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the hospital an hour later.

Detective Craig Lowe said there was no indication that Woodruff had been struck by a vehicle or suffered an injury. He apparently collapsed while riding his bike home from the store.

An autopsy performed Wednesday indicated he had an enlarged heart, said Lowe. The exact cause of death is awaiting toxicology results.
