Carson man hospitalized in go-cart accident

Nevada Appeal Staff Report

A Carson City man was listed in critical but stable condition at a Reno hospital Tuesday after being injured racing a go-cart on Lewis Drive, according to police.

Matthew Hancock, 24, was allegedly racing go-carts with a friend in the dark just after 9 p.m. Monday when Hancock slammed into the back of a trailer, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

McDaniel said the impact pushed the trailer three or four feet, and caused the roll bars on the go-cart to crumple around Hancock.

He suffered a head injury, broken nose and lacerations to his foot.

“He was losing quite a bit of blood so he was Care Flighted out,” said McDaniel.

The incident blocked traffic at Colorado Street and Lewis Drive when the helicopter landed in the road.
