City Hall expansion on time, on budget and should be ready for fall opening
A nearly half-million dollar expansion of Carson’s City Hall is progressing smoothly, officials say, with metal framework now up to show where the building’s new walls will be.
Project Manager John Benzing said the 2,750 -square-foot addition approved by supervisors last year is on time, on budget and should be finished by mid-October.
The city said the addition is needed to house growing municipal services and departments.
The extra space will allow expansion of the assessor and information technology offices while providing room for the finance department to combine with the related offices of risk management and treasurer. It will also allow the city to move Human Resources offices from the building’s lobby.
City officials originally estimated the addition, which will eliminate the drive-through windows remaining from the building’s former use as a Bank of America, would cost $320,000. The estimate was later changed to $470,000 and Reno contractor Building Solutions LLC won the job with a low bid of nearly $490,000.
Carson City bought the building on Carson Street for $1.2 million in 1997.
