Couple jailed in shooting; no one hurt

Nevada Appeal Staff Report

A Carson City couple were jailed Friday night after the man allegedly fired a shot at someone on Curry Street.

Shaun Nicholas Day, 29, was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony discharging a firearm from a vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, a warrant for failure to appear, being a felon in possession of a firearm, gross misdemeanor aiming a firearm at a human being and a misdemeanor Lyon County warrant.

Also arrested was Chandy Dorlynn Atkins, 30, on suspicion of felony accessory to assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, a man reported he was walking near South Curry and Eighth streets when a car driven by Atkins pulled up behind him.

The man and Day exchanged words, according to the report, and Day then pointed a gun at the man.

“All of a sudden the gun went off and the victim described a huge flame and a very loud bang,” the report states.

The victim, who knew Day and Atkins, ran off and the car drove away. The bullet was never found. Within 10 minutes of the initial call, officers found Atkins’ car nearby. Atkins and Day were inside and were arrested without incident.

A revolver with one round missing from the cylinder was found on the passenger floorboard, the report states.

Day’s bail was set at $20,000. Atkins’ bail was set at $5,000.
