CVI, Bodines hosting birthday blast for Preakness winner
Carson Valley Inn and Bodines Casinos are holding a birthday celebration for recent Preakness winner Lookin at Lucky and the public is invited to meet the trainer, owner and jockey on Friday.
Lookin at Lucky is back home in Southern California after his recent $1 million win at the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Racetrack in Baltimore. While the colt won’t be present for his party, racing fans will have an opportunity to meet Mike Pegram, owner of the Carson Valley Inn, Bodines and Lookin at Lucky, Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert and the jockey who rode Lucky to his Preakness victory, Martin Garcia.
This trio will be greeting the public, signing autographs and telling a few stories from 10:30 -11:45 a.m. Friday in the Cabaret Lounge at the Carson Valley Inn Casino and then again from noon to 1:15 p.m. at the Racebook in Bodines Casino.
Born on May 28, 2007, Lookin at Lucky showed early promise and talent, which was recognized immediately by his future trainer.
“I took one look at him and knew this horse would be a champion one day,” said Baffert. “I immediately called Mike Pegram and told him he just bought a new horse.”
Baffert, Gomez and a number of other racing dignitaries will be in town as part of a private racing industry birthday eve celebration for Lookin at Lucky at the Carson Valley Inn tonight.
Mike Pegram opened Bodines Casino in May of 2008 along with the Carano family, owners of the Eldorado Hotel Casino, Silver Legacy Resort Casino and Tamarack Junction Casino in Reno, and Rick Murdock, vice president of Sales for the Eldorado.
Pegram teamed up with the same group to purchase the Carson Valley Inn on
