Brad Horn/Nevada Appeal Heather Andrews holds her 3-year-old son Sterling Andrews, of Reno, while he tries to talk on her cell phone during a Senate Commerce and Labor work session at the Nevada State Legislature on Friday. Sterling was born profoundly deaf and received cochlear implants when he was 1-year-old. His mother Heather testified in front of the committee.

INFO: Event is free. Refreshments will be provided, and there will be prize drawings, storytelling, information about the college’s Deaf Studies program, and a representative from 4-H showcasing some fun animal friends. There will also be arts and crafts, face painting, free caricature drawing by a local artist, games for children and a chance to Learn American Sign Language.
