Debbie Smith elected VP of NCSL

Assemblywoman Debbie Smith, D-Sparks, has been elected vice president of the National Conference of State Legislatures.
She was installed in office at the bipartisan organization’s legislative summit in Chicago on Aug. 9. The Conference is a national organization that serves the nation’s more than 7,000 state legislators and their staff.
After a year as vice president, she will ascend to president-elect of the organization and then to president at the 2014 legislative summit.
Smith, who is running for a seat in the Nevada Senate, has chaired the Assembly Ways and Means Committee and served as president pro-tem in the Assembly.
She is the first Nevada legislator to serve as an officer on the National Conference of State Legislatures’ executive committee.
