A DUI checkpoint near Spooner Summit netted several arrests and citations on July 4.

According to a statement from Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman Chuck Allen:

From 2-10 p.m., officers stopped 3,547 vehicles to check drivers’ sobriety. Numerous regional law enforcement agencies participated.

Four drivers were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and one was arrested for allegedly being under the influence of marijuana. Three people were cited for possession of marijuana. Three were cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. There also were nine child safety seat violations, four seat belt violations and seven additional traffic citations issued, Allen said. Ten minors were cited for alcohol consumption.

Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 24 people Thursday on suspicion of crimes including burglary, battery, trespassing, larceny, drunken driving, disorderly conduct and consumption of alcohol by a minor, Sgt. Pat Brooks said in a Friday statement. Deputies also cited six people for crimes including minor consuming alcohol, larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia.

“The celebratory crowds in the Stateline, Round Hill and Zephyr Cove areas of Lake Tahoe were large and with exception of a few altercations in the downtown Casino Core area, Nevada Beach and Zephyr Cove Beach, the crowd was relatively well behaved,” Brooks stated. “Motorists were cooperative with the road closures and traffic control required for the fireworks display.”
