GARDNERVILLE – Between 10 and 20 gallons of mixed engine fluids spilled into the Virginia Ditch at the Carson Valley Golf Course when a dump truck hauling sand rolled into the ditch Monday morning.

The truck was crossing a bridge at the golf course about 10 a.m. when several boards gave way, pitching the truck down the slope, according to course owner Tom Brooks. The driver and passengers got out safely before it slid, then rolled into the water.

“The bad news is, the truck’s damaged,” Brooks said. “The good news is that everyone is fine.”

East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts along with the hazardous-materials team responded. Water Master Julian Larrouy closed the tributaries to prevent spread of the spill, which was cleaned up by Haz-Mat.

Capital Towing used a heavy wrecker to remove the truck from the ditch, which Brooks said took about 11Ú2 hours.
