Emergency shelter in Fuji Park in Carson city open this weekend

Special to the Nevada Appeal

In anticipation of single-digit temperatures projected this weekend, the Emergency Warming Shelter at Fuji Park will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The shelter may be open longer based on the overnight low temperatures, 15 degrees or below, forecasted by the Nevada Appeal.

FISH is continuing to coordinate with the city and Red Cross to provide a safe, warm place for anyone who needs to get out of the freezing weather.

The shelter takes people who are intoxicated, as long as they don’t have alcohol or drugs in their possession; as well as anyone who doesn’t have shelter available to them, as long as they are not a danger to themselves or others. Pets are also welcome, as long as they remain under their owner’s supervision.

Volunteers will be on hand to proctor the warming shelter.

The shelter’s shuttle will be available to transport anyone who needs a ride from FISH to the warming shelter at 6 p.m. each night. The shuttle runs back from the warming shelter to FISH at 7 a.m.
