Extra deputies to cover Super Bowl weekend drivers

Staff reports

The Carson City Sheriff’s Department will be conducting extra traffic enforcement during Super Bowl weekend and through next week.

Deputies will be working overtime to reduce speeders until Friday, said Deputy Jarrod Adams.

“Traffic enforcement is a major concern in Carson City. We want people to slow down and drive safely,” he said in a press release. “It has been determined that high visibility of traffic enforcement is one of the best ways to ensure compliance with speed laws.”

Funding for the overtime has been provided by the Joining Forces grant administered by the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, Department of Public Safety.

Any questions regarding this event can be directed to Sgt. Mike Cullen at 887-2020 ext. 3171 or Deputy Jarrod Adams at 887-2020 ext. 5314.

Additional highway patrol troopers will also be on the roads for Super Bowl Sunday, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen.

The increase is an effort to potentially reduce the number of impaired drivers on roadways in conjunction with the national awareness campaign “Over the Limit, Under Arrest,” said Allen.

Troopers will also be looking for seat belt and child-restraint violations during their traffic enforcement stops.
