‘Feds Feed Families’ drive Saturday outside Grocery Outlet

Nevada Appeal Staff Report

“Feds Feed Families,” a food drive to benefit the hungry in Carson City, will have a booth and food drop-off available from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today in front of Grocery Outlet, 1831 N. Carson St.

Last weekend’s food drive brought in more than 700 pounds of food for the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, including 477 pounds of dry food, and an additional 224 pounds of fresh vegetables and fruit from donations at the Carson City Farmer’s Market.

In Carson City, federal employees from USDA Rural Development, the Bureau of Reclamation, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Federal Highway Administration and the United States Geological Survey have volunteered to assist with the food drive. In addition, the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles recently joined the food drive.

“The community response to this food drive has been amazing,” said USDA Rural Development Public Affairs Coordinator Kelly Clark. “We really appreciate Carson City residents’ willingness to step up to help their neighbors in need.”

Ongoing donations of canned foods or nonperishable dry foods can be made at the USDA Rural Development Office, at 1390 S. Curry St. Collection bins are set up just inside the doors. The food drive will run through Aug. 28.
