Fire burns in Jumbo Grade

A fire in Jumbo Grade, off Eastlake Boulevard in Washoe Valley, burned about 25 acres by Monday night, according to Sierra Front Iteragency Dispatch. The fire started around 4:30 p.m. Monday, burning sagebrush and piñon pine in the lower Jumbo Grade area, near the trail head.

No structures were immediately threatened, but there are homes at the base of the canyon.

The perimeter of the Jumbo fire was surrounded by roads, with a retardant line enforcing the natural barriers.

Ground units planned to remain on scene throughout the night, mopping up and patrolling the perimeter.

Four air tankers, two hand crews, two helicopters, one dozer, five engines, one water tender, four command staff, and 70 personnel responded to the blaze.

The cause is under investigation.
