A fire ripped through an unoccupied trailer in the 1600 block of Brown Street Saturday night causing flames and smoke that could be seen from Highway 50 east. The home was completely destroyed but resulted in no injuries.

The call came in at 9:42 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Four units from the Carson City Fire Department responded and quickly gained control of the blaze.

“The back third of the structure was the primary burn area and it looks like it could be close to a total loss,” said Battalion Chief Dan Shirley.

The trailer was owned by Bill Norgrove, who had not lived there for several months and used the trailer for storage, according to land owner Chester Huttman.

The exact cause of the fire was still under investigation.

The fire was part of an unusually busy night for the Carson City Fire department as it was the 17th call they had responded to since their shift began. The calls included illnesses, accidents and calls for assistance.
