Fire in Pleasant Valley 70 percent contained
A 75 acre wildland fire is burning on top of a hill near the bridge construction in Pleasant Valley.
According to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center, 10 engines and 150 firefighters are on the scene. They anticipate minimal containment or control problems because of the location, and expect to have it under control this afternoon.
An engine has been put in place to protect a radio tower at the top of the hill, and other units are in place to protect other structures as a precaution. No structures are threatened at this time.
Scott Magruder, spokesman for the Nevada Department of Transportation, said the fire was started when a blade on a piece of excavation equipment struck a rock and created a spark that ignited the brush.
The bridge is being built west of Highway 395 as part of the Interstate 580 construction. No reports of road closures have been reported by the NHP.
Smoke is visible from Carson City and Reno.
